TANK MUSEUM COLLECTION IN PIVKA

TANKOVSKA MUZEJSKA ZBIRKA V PIVKI

This page is part of the SiteO web site.

Whoever travels from Central Europe to the Adriatic coast almost has no other choice but to pass the township Pivka. So every summer columns of tourists are passing Pivka and also huge buildings seen above the road just behind the town. These buildings have so far looked a little more gloomy every year. But this picture is about to start changing.

Preparation of exhibits.

Priprava eksponatov.

The title should actually read: "Pivka Armoured Vehicles and Artillery Museum Collection". In September 2004 an agreement was signed by then minister of defence, dr. Anton Grizold and Lord Mayor of Pivka Robert Smrdel by which Slovenian Army will leave the administering of the barracks complex in Hrastje to the Community of Pivka. The later shall there form the mentioned Museum Collection.

The barracks complex in question is a magnificent architecture, but in a grave state of disrepair. Renovating it will demand great efforts. So all this winter a group of architects and engineers, joined by community representatives and supported by the expertise of Military Museum Ljubljana and Notranjsko-kraski muzej Postojna have looked for the best solutions so that first works could start this spring. First pieces are therefore expected to be posted on the site as early as this summer.

So if you will be travelling from Central Europe to Adriatic Coast this summer you may well make a short stop in Pivka and ask how things are going.

Septembra 2004 sta tedanji obrambni minister dr. Anton Grizold in zupan obcine Pivka, g.
