..."Through the forest along the road we see these little signs of the past; railways too, that ran along the ridge supplying the builders of fortifications. We stop and take a short walk to look at two casemate bunkers of the Rupnik Line whose entrance we passed back along the road, now filled in. The mass of dandelions that cover the fields and the cool clean air is very good. We walk into the forest and Alex explains the reasons for the defences here and how the Italians shelled the area in 1941 and how the bunkers were incomplete, the holes dug for them not being backfilled and the lower concrete left exposed. We return to the bus and drive along the ridge of Zirovski Vrh, dotted with MG pillboxes, some completed and others part built. We surround one of these pillboxes and move in; our cameras have replaced guns clicking loudly as we advance. Like champions we line up for a group photo by the pillbox."... ..."Next stop is at the small family run hotel of Kendov dvorec, a former manor where Ad Pirum has organised a presentation by Alex giving the historical background to our Tour, followed by an excellent and sociable lunch"... ..."We descend to the bottom of the valley, looking at some elements of the Vallo Alpino and stopping at Podroteja near Idrija to climb up steps to look at a bunker with cloche before we cross a suspension bridge to look at an AT wall and another well-camouflaged pillbox"...
