A GREAT LOOS
.
On September 13. 2004 the editor of this site was in Kotschach-Mouthen in Austria meeting his colleague Tomasz Idzikowski, the director of the SiteO for Poland, Hungary, Belrus, Ukraine, Russia and Finland, and Jaroslaw Chorzepa, the editor of Forteca magazine. .
The meeting would have been a great occasion for exchange of experience and furthering ways of cooperation if it wasn't marred with the news that this very morning professor Walther Schaumann, the soul and the engine behind the 1915-1917 Museum and the Dolomitenfreunde association has passed away that very morning.
.
Prof. Schaumann was the initiator of the action to rebuild the remnants of the front line at Plockenpass / Monte Croce Carnico area that showed first great results in 1983. His efforts have since become a legend and his departure leaves a great void among those striving to preserve the memory of the great and tragic events that changed the Alps into one of the bloodiest war theatres of the first world war.

.VELIKA IZGUBA .
